Promoting Your Blog - Five Free Ways to Promote Your Blog

Youíre creating a blog for one reason: so others can read -- and hopefully enjoy -- all those posts you offer. You might also be creating a blog because itís a popular online trend that could bring in a lot of visitors. Even the best blogs, however, can benefit from a little promotion. Learn five free ways to promote your blog.

Email. Almost everyone, from your co-workers to your favorite aunt, is online. Make sure they all know you have a great blog to offer. Email links to your blog, maybe even pieces of your latest posts, to your friends and family. Word of mouth is often the best promotion of all, whether youíre trying to push a blog or a product. Generate buzz and get the word out, especially among people you actually know. Get people talking to you about your blog, and the word will start to spread.

Directories. There are hundreds of blog directories, general Web site directories and RSS directories you should be using to your advantage. Whatís one of the best ways to promote your blog? Submit your URL -- everywhere. Directories may be well-packed with links, but thereís no reason you should shy away from adding even one more. Add your blog, submit your URL and find directories. This may seem like a small thing, but itís always good to get the word out -- any which way you can.

Social networking. If youíre trying to establish any sort of online presence, you should already belong to social networking and social media sites. Have a profile on MySpace (pictured), Twitter, Facebook, any number of other social sites? Always, always include a link to your blog -- even two or three if you can manage. Social networking sites are extremely popular and free for you to use. These sites give you a great opportunity for your to promote your blog, and yourself, free of charge. Itís very simple to use these social networking sites, so create a profile and show off your link.

Links, links, links. Always include links in every single blog post you publish. Link to past blog posts youíve written, forum topics that are on your site, and outside sources like other blogs and bloggers. The Google Blog is consistently popular with traffic, and itís often chock-full of interesting links. Youíre now a part of the blogging community -- so act like it. Link to other bloggers, and you might find that they start linking to you, too.

Search engine optimization. Want to know how to promote your blog? SEO, search engine optimization, is always the best thing you can do for any blog post you create. Always remember to use keyword-focused headlines, keyword-rich phrases in all your content and simple words that anyone can easily read. Remember that youíre writing for the Internet population at large, so be sure your words can appeal to a mass audience. Keep your posts keyword-focused and reader-friendly, and keep your blog optimized for the Web. This will not only make your pages more popular, but increases the chances theyíll actually stay that way.
