Conventions, Meetings and Mixers - How Social Should Your Site Get?
Online forums, discussion boards and comments are extremely popular, as are socially-themed sites which encourage users to meet and interact. The numbers alone tell us that even Internet traffic is looking for human interaction and connection…so isn’t getting them together for face-to-face meetings the next logical step?

When planning any sort of social activity that’s meant to take place outside the bounds of the Internet, it’s important to go by the numbers. How much traffic does your site get? How many subscribers do you have? Unless you have very large numbers (hundreds, thousands of hits a day) it might not be prudent to schedule a convention.
Remember, attendees will be paying out of their own pockets to cover expenses for travel, lodging, meals and any attendance fees you may include for the event itself. Many, many users will opt not to go, and you want any meetings you plan to be well-attended to be successful. The more traffic you have, the better your chances of getting that impressive attendance which makes your event a success.
