So, maybe you aren’t so good at writing code. Maybe you’d rather not bother. Maybe you’re fearful of making a mistake. You don’t even need a reason not to write your own code; just use easy META generation to take the work out of code writing. Thankfully, there are plenty of sites out there offering free META tag generation to save you the trouble of writing tags yourself.
Look for sites like Vancouver Web Pages (http://vancouver-webpages.com/META/mk-metas.html), Submit Express (http://www.submitexpress.com/metatags.html, pictured) and Online Meta Tag (http://www.onlinemetatag.com/) to generate easy-to-use META tags for any site. You’ll provide the site’s title, search engine description and keywords; they provide the tags (which you can cut and paste directly into your site’s HTML editor).
Other sites don’t even make you come up with your own keywords. Webmaster Toolkit (http://www.webmaster-toolkit.com/meta-tag-generator.shtml, pictured), for instance, simply asks for the URL of the page for which you want to generate META tags. The site will comb your page to find the most commonly-used words, then create tags based upon what it finds. You can always tailor these tags to suit your site if anything seems slightly off, and it’s still less work than writing the code and picking out keywords yourself.
