What Can User Ratings and Reviews Do for Your Site?

If you're like most webmasters, you're always looking for ways to make your site more interesting, interactive, and attractive to visitors. You've created great content, and you may have even started letting users add content through forums and other means. But have you considered adding user ratings and reviews to your site?

Comments. Online forums. A discussion board. A link to your email address. A dozen little ways that your Web site traffic can give you feedback on your site. Some Webmasters use polls to directly quiz their traffic, while others invite comments on all blog posts to get a read on what their visitors are like.

There are many, many ways you can learn more about your traffic, many ways you can get them to contribute to your pages. Have you ever thought about taking this interaction a little bit further? Do you know what user ratings and reviews can do for your site?

It’s no secret that many Web pages feature products, items for sale or trade, even information on services and merchandise that’s currently on the market. Online catalogs are more popular than ever, as more shoppers are discovering the joys and ease of making their purchases online. You probably put a lot of effort into the words you use to describe each and every product, every service, everything that’s for sale and meant to be seen on your pages.

But what happens when you showcase the opinions of others as well as your own? What can user ratings and reviews do for your site?
