Mobile Advertising: What`s it Worth?
By some estimates, there are two cell phones for every single person on the globe. When you really think about how large that number is, you’re probably immediately thinking of something else: marketing opportunities. Television is big, the Internet is huge and cell phones -- well, they give advertisers the biggest market out there. But is mobile advertising a viable solution for your business?
With billions of cell phones floating around and so many people using them to gab, the mobile market seems pretty juicy. Mobile advertising is highly popular and varied, and in many ways not unlike Internet advertising (which feels like old hat to experienced marketers). For some, mobile advertising is a great answer to a publicity problem. What can it do for you?
All About Mobile Ads
If you’ve ever owned a cell phone, it’s likely you’ve seen mobile advertising in some form. SMS (short message service, or text messaging) is the most common form of mobile ads. This type of marketing alone is estimated as accounting for 90 percent of worldwide mobile advertising revenue -- a huge chunk of all cell-phone-based marketing in general. Web banners which appear at the top and bottom of the screen are also used in mobile ads, as is MMS (multimedia messaging service). MMS ads are often seen in the form of full-screen graphics or audio commercial spots.
There are an estimated 2.5 billion active cell phone users in the world. Of these, it is further estimated that 74 percent send and receive text messages, or SMS. This is why SMS mobile ads are highly popular among marketers. If you’re just getting started in mobile advertising, starting with text-based ads is a good way to get going in your campaign. Always remember that no advertising campaign is guaranteed to be successful.
