Making the Most of Your Titles and Meta Descriptions - Tips on creating an effective meta description
(Page 4 of 4 )
Creating an effective meta description can drive traffic to your site by enticing the readers with more than a simple sentence. Granted, you will not get a whole paragraph on most search engines, but you may get two properly worded sentences.
Now let’s talk about how you can make effective meta descriptions.
Creating a great meta description is not hard. You can make a good description by keeping some of these basic factors in mind.
- Create a unique meta description on each of the pages on your site. If a page in generic, like your welcome page, then give a general overview of the site. If you are on a more specific page, like your contacts or an article, then create a specific and unique description of the page.
- Show off information about the piece that may not be obvious in the title. If your title is "How to kill snails," then you should be looking for more descriptive text like, "Organic snail deterrents can be effective, if they are used properly..."
- Make the description of your content easy to read. Short and simple sentences are the best. If you make things too long, then you will lose your readers' focus.
- Keep focus. You may be tempted to move on to similar subjects, or create a meta description that will draw in readers even if it is not exactly on target to draw in people. Stay on track or you will make people angry and frustrated; they will expect one thing, but you will give them something else.
See, setting up those descriptions is not as hard as it seemed at first. You can do this, and in no time at all you will be the master of titles and meta descriptions. As a part of your overall SEO strategy, you can make your site a big success.
