How to create ghosted text effects with adobe photoshop
Tutorial: Ghosted Text Effect Software: Adobe Photoshop 6.0 Difficulty: Beginner
This Adobe web tutorial will show you how to create cool ghosted style text effects to jazz up your text.
Step 1: Fire up Adobe Photoshop and go to File + New to create a new file image. Set the width and the height to the settings that you want. Remember to make the file image big enough to place your text onto it.
(Step 1 diagram)
Step 2: Now you will need to select the type tool by clicking the T tool icon >> and then click onto the blank file image and start typing your text. I chose to type 'Spooky Ghosts' with the verdana font and used the color grey - #EEEEEE. Note: It doesn't really matter what you use for your text or what font you use for that matter. I also used black #000000 for the background color of the file image.
(Step 2 diagram)
Step 3: Now go to Layer + Dublicate Layer as shown in the 'Step 3 diagram' below.
(Step 3 diagram)
Step 4: Now go to your layers palette and select the duplicate layer as shown in the 'Step 4 diagram' below.
(Step 4 diagram)
Step 5: Now go to your tools palette and select the move tool >> and then press the left arrow button on your keyboard 6 times. Your text will now look similar to that shown in the 'Step 5 diagram' below.
(Step 5 diagram)
Step 6: Now go to Filter + Blur + Gaussian Blur. A box will appear asking you to rasterize the layer - click OK and then on the Gaussian Blur box that appears after clicking Ok, set the radius to 2 and again click OK as shown in the 'Step 5 diagram' below.
(Step 5 diagram)
Step 7: Now go back to your original text layer and select it. Next click on the Add a Layer Style icon >> and then select Outer Glow from the drop-down menu. An Outer Glow box will now appear - make your settings the same as the ones shown in the 'Step 7 diagram' below and then click on OK.
(Step 7 diagram)
Color used is grey #CACAC8
Step 8: Finally click on the Add a Layer Style icon >> and then select Stroke from the drop-down menu. A Stroke box will now appear - make your settings the same as the ones shown in the 'Step 8 diagram' below and then click on OK.
(Step 8 diagram)
Color used is grey #FFFFFF
Now to finish it off go to Layer + Flatten Image and then save it to your hard-drive.
The finished Ghosted Text Effect should now look similar to the below image.
I hope this tutorial was of help.
