Exploding Your Website Traffic Through Article Submission - So, the author...
So, the author writes a focused article, generally between 500 and 1000 words (much like the one you're reading now) and submits that to the article directory. The author benefits because she can add, generally, at least one live hyperlink to the bio box at the end of her article. If she's savvy, she'll hyperlink a particular keyword phrase which her website is targeting. So, for example, if Susie Smith is selling blue widgets from her website, whose url is
www.susiecreations.com, her bio box might read: Susie Smith studied business at the Wisconsin Widget Institute and happily runs a Blue Widgets Website.
This is the key to the wonderfulness of writing articles for article directories. The search engines-all of them-love a highly targeted keyword phrase aimed at a website. Had Susie made her hyperlink Susie's Creations Website, she'd still benefit, but hyperlinking the words which people actually type into the search engine's text field is far more effective. And, the search engines will love you all the more if you don't reciprocate the link.
Thus, the article directory has become a search engine optimizer's best friend. With an article submission, the author may gain dozens of links back to his site. However, as I said, the search engine game has become quite tough, and even these dozens of links will not usually be enough to make much of a difference. If you study top sites in Google, you'll see that they have thousands upon thousands of links pointing at them.
