Will Google Social Search Affect Your Traffic? - How Does Social Search Work?
After you've typed in your search term (in this example, music), you'll see your Google results displayed exactly as they always were. But once you scroll down to the bottom of those standard search results, you'll see Social Search at work. This is where you'll begin to see the difference -- and recognize the potential for this new feature.
Labeled "results from people in your social circle," you'll see lists of results that point you to the content posted by your online contacts. Social Search only offers results that pertain to the specific keywords you entered, so you'll get truly custom results that offer a little bit extra to help you stay up-to-date with all your acquaintances and contacts.
These social results won't be affected by the same ranking system used by Google for standard search results -- and therein lies all the difference.
