Will Google Social Search Affect Your Traffic? - What Does Google Social Search Do?

Google Social Search combines networking with online surfing in a never-before-seen, brand-new way that could become a hot new trend on the Internet. This potential new feature will allow users to easily find blog posts, profile information and other data offered up by their friends, family and contacts of all kinds online.

The site will search your Gmail account, Google Talk contacts, articles, Google Profile, even contacts you have on Twitter and FriendFeed, and include content from these people in your searches. Want to keep tabs on your favorite bloggers? Know when your friends are posting new recipes or music? With Google Social Search, you'll be able to stay in contact with your friends over a much broader base -- you'll be able to look for them over the entire Internet, rather than checking one social site at a time.

This feature will also have an effect on the search results of anyone who's using it. If you've got lots of content to offer, Google Social Search could become a very important experiment for you and your Web site.

    Joining Google Social Search

Want to give it a try and see how it works? Provided that you belong to no other Google experiments and have signed up for a free account with the site, you can simply click "Join This Experiment" on the right-hand side of the experimental page next to the Social Search description. You'll immediately be a part of the action, and instantly you'll be able to give this new feature a test-drive.

Now that you're part of the experiment, why not try it out? To begin using Google Social Search to see how it works, simply go to the Google home page. You'll see the difference right away.

What do you want to search for today? Just conduct your surfing the way you normally would; Google Social Search will do all the work for you. You'll notice no difference in your normal search results. Sponsored links and ranked pages will still be displayed after every single search term you enter.

But what happens when you do type in search strings and get your results from Social Search? And if more people start using this function, how will this start to affect your site?
