    A Guide to Spamdexing

The term spamdexing was first used by a writer for the Boston Herald way back in May of 1996. Eric Convey, who coined the phrase, stated that it was a mix of spamming and search engine indexing. There are several methods people use when creating this type of spam, and we will cover each of them in this article.

It should go without saying that spamdexing is a Black Hat SEO technique and should be avoided. Using these techniques can lead to your site being penalized or banned, and are only mentioned here to ensure that you do not accidentally use them.

    Content Spam

As the name implies, content spam involves manipulating the way that the various search engines view a page's content in an effort to garner a better page ranking. These include keyword and meta-tag stuffing, gateway pages, hidden text, and the creation of scraping websites.
