Using Ads and SEO to Monetize your Website or Blog - Alexa Ranking

Alexa is a very powerful online tool used to rank website traffic, meaning you can utilize it to find out when you get the most website hits. If you're the competitive type, you can even see how your site stacks up against competitors. There is a slight catch, as an Alexa rank can only be measured according to the amount of users visiting a website with an Alexa toolbar installed.

Using Alexa can prove to be very beneficial, as it can help you understand what kind of content leads to the most page hits on your site. Keep in mind that the lower your Alexa ranking number, the more heavily visited your site is. For example, Amazon , an extremely popular website, has an Alexa ranking of 14, which doesn't even come close to a website that sees an unbelievable amount of traffic, like Yahoo , which has an Alexa ranking of 1.

As a webmaster, you should be concerned with your Alexa rank, because it can have a great affect on how successful you will be at monetizing your website. Advertisers and ad networks often use your website or blog's Alexa rank as a gauge to determine the worth of a link or ad on your website. So, as you can see, if the revenue of your site depends on link or site selling as a form of monetization, you're going to want to increase your Alexa rank as a way of increasing your bargaining power when it comes to ad pricing.

There are quick ways to fix your Alexa rank if you're looking for an immediate fix, but in the long run it's highly recommended that you focus on developing quality content that attracts and maintains a large audience instead of focusing on artificially increasing your rank. A more natural increase will come with great link-worthy content that increases site traffic, which is something you should treat as a top priority and long term goal.

If by chance you are looking for a quick fix to boost your Alexa rating, you can put an Alexa rank widget on your website, which will lead to a fair amount of clicks every day. Each click counts as a visit, even if the toolbar isn't used by the visitor.

Another "cheat" that can be used to help your Alexa ranking is geared towards those who work in a casual office environment or own their own business. You can get the Alexa toolbar installed on your work computers and then set your website as the home page for all browsers. It's kind of sneaky, but it will boost your ranking.
