Do you love to blog? Most bloggers love what they do so much that they're glad to do it for free. But wouldn't it be nice to get paid to do what you love? Keep reading; this article, the first part of a three-part series, will explain some of the ways you can arrange to get paid to blog.
What are Sponsored Blog Posts?
If you have a website or blog for personal or professional reasons, chances are you’re not making any money off of it, and on the rare occasions that you are, you’re probably not making as much as you would like. It is not unusual for people to devote a great amount of time and energy into their websites only to find that the large work load isn’t paying off. If blogging is a passion of yours and you care deeply about your subject matter, it will only prove to be an extra (and major) perk that you’re getting paid to do what you love.
So, how does someone turn their website or blog into something that is lucrative and can provide them with extra income? It’s not as complicated as some would think; actually, it’s as simple as creating sponsored blog posts.
Sponsored blog posts are currently one of the most innovative ways to not only earn money for blogging, but to gain page views and advertising as well, and there are a couple of ways it can be done. The first way involves setting up a blog around a specific topic of interest and generating income through the display of advertising/affiliate programs, and the provision of online services or advertising/affiliate programs.
For example, if you love ice cream and you decide to start a website or blog about this love of ice cream, you could generate funds by allowing Ben and Jerry or Dryer’s to advertise on your site, or they could pay you to write a review of their products. Essentially, advertisers pay bloggers to discuss or review their website or product while also including a link to the advertiser’s site.
The second way to generate income is only applicable to those who already have a blog with an established fan base. If you are lucky enough to be in that situation, being paid can be as simple as seeking out advertisers whose products are in line with your tastes or interests. Advertisers are willing to pay well-established bloggers and blog spots simply for featuring their ad, because a blog that receives countless hits a day is guaranteed to generate interest for a business featured on the site.
The best example of this kind of exchange would be the case of Mario Lavandeira, otherwise known on the Internet as Perez Hilton. What started off as a silly, personal blog about celebrities and pop culture quickly turned into one of the web’s most viewed sites, which has made Hilton the highest paid blogger in history. The twenty-something went from obscurity to wild success in a matter of months. Hilton's blog is said to generate millions of dollars in advertising from major corporate sponsors such as MTV and NBC.
Hilton’s wealth and great success is actually rare in the blogging community. It will prove to be very difficult for an unknown blog to garner even half as much attention or website hits in months as Hilton’s site receives in just a single day. If you are a blogger and you are interested in generating an income with your blogging, your best bet at making decent money would come from joining an already established, paid blogging network.
