Deducting the Home Office - The IRS Return...

The IRS Return Preparer Program focuses on enhancing compliance in the
return preparer community by investigating and referring criminal activity by
return preparers to the Department of Justice for prosecution and asserting
appropriate civil penalties against unscrupulous return preparers.

While most preparers provide excellent service to their clients, the IRS urges
taxpayers to be very careful when choosing a tax preparer. You should be as
careful as you would in choosing a doctor or a lawyer. It is important to know that
even if someone else prepares your return, it will be you who is held legally
    responsible for its contents..

    Identity Theft

It pays to be choosy when it comes to disclosing personal information. Identity
thieves have used stolen personal data to access financial accounts, run up
charges on credit cards and apply for new loans.

The IRS is aware of several identity theft scams involving taxes. In one case,
fraudsters sent bank customers fictitious correspondence and IRS forms in an
attempt to trick them into disclosing their personal financial data.
