Is Your Optimization Working? - Check Your Optimization Efforts
(Page 3 of 3 )
Is your optimization working? All the rereading, keyword analyzing and density-checking in the world won’t help you as easily as a single search might. If you really want to know whether or not your SEO efforts are paying off, shouldn't you go straight to the source?
Want to know whether or not all your big SEO efforts are going to waste? Make sure your content is live on the Internet and then go straight to the best source of all: the search engines themselves. Type in the keyword phrases on which you focused for your content, hit the enter key and let the results fall where they may. Chances are, one way or the other, you’ll be surprised by what happens.
If your content is appearing on page 17 of the search engine results, obviously it’s time to re-think your SEO efforts. If, however, you find that you’re happy with where your content is appearing, then you know you’re definitely doing something right. While checking your results with the search engines is the best way to see, in real time, whether or not your efforts are working, there’s a very easy way you can start focusing those optimization efforts rather than just randomly searching phrases you’ve used in the past.
Use your Web site’s statistics to find out how many visitors you’re getting to your pages. Note where the highest concentration of visitors seems to fall. If, for instance, you find that one piece of content is shining above the others, you’ve got a good starting place. Look at the keyword phrases you used for this piece of content, and then see where it falls with the search engine results. Chances are, you’ll find that this popular page has great rankings. Go ahead and analyze the keyword density and check over the article to note what SEO decisions you made.
When you understand which pages are working and how dense they are in keywords, you can start optimizing the rest of your pages so they’ll be just as successful. Need to know exactly where you stand? Turn to the search engines, and view the results (if you dare).
Why spend all that time worrying about keyword placement and coming up with great phrases if you don’t know exactly how well your optimization efforts are paying off for your site? Know exactly where you stand, and why, and you’ll know how to start optimizing all the content you write for the Web. Is your optimization working? Now, you know how to check SEO and focus your efforts - so that you can always answer yes, it is.
