So You Want to Create a Blog - Maintaining a Blog

For a blog to truly be a blog, it must have new posts added regularly. Some blogs are updated once a week or once a month, while others may have new posts to offer every single day. The more frequently-updated a blog is, the more content it has to offer. This means that the blogs that are updated with new posts more often usually draw the most traffic. More content means more traffic, so it’s in your best interest to make sure your blog has plenty of new posts.

As a blog creator, you have one responsibility: a whole lot of writing. The most popular, high-traffic blogs on the Web offer much more than simple text, albeit interesting and engaging. Popular blogs give a lot to viewers in the form of links, pictures, video, comments, discussions, and feeds, which allow them to enjoy the blog in many different ways. Polls, forums, and other features are often included on high-traffic blogs as well. Most Internet users are now looking for an interactive experience, a way to connect with other users and even the writers of their favorite blogs and articles.

In short, it’s a lot of work. You will not only need to write blog posts, but comb the blog archives for usable links, comb the Internet for usable pictures and video, and stay up-to-date on what readers have to say about the posts they read. Writing several posts a day could equal an entire day of work, leaving you with time to do little else than work on the blog.
