Improving Blogspot Traffic with Free Google Tools - Google Webmaster Tools

First, you have to verify your blog ownership in Google Webmaster tools. To do this in Blogger Classic, follow the important instructions below.

Step 1. Go to Dashboard, paste in your blog's front page URL, and then click "Add site." Your blog's front page URL is like the home page of your blog. For example, testblog969788.blogspot.com

Step 2. Click the link that says "Verify your site."

Step 3. In the verification methods, select "Add meta tag."

Step 4. Google will give you a verification meta tag, for example:

    <meta name="verify-v1" content="R5GRGEdtCaBkdhskdswdIc8D4Bp0432Vqnr+KsdsswRSOXk=" />

Step 5. Go to your Blogspot template and copy and paste this code just above: <$BlogMetaData$>, then click "Save Template Changes."

Step 6. Go back to the Google Webmaster Tools Dashboard, find your blog, click the link that says "Verify?" Select "Add meta tag" again, and then click "Verify." Google will then confirm that you have successfully verified your blog.

One of the requisites of ranking is to have your blog post or pages be indexed by Google. Using Google Webmaster Tools, you can determine if your blog has crawling issues. It is recommended that you resolve these crawling issues first, before you proceed to anything else.

Once the blog is verified, you can now obtain the following important information that will be helpful to increase traffic:

    1. The crawling problems of your pages.

    2. A list of keywords for which your blog appear in search results.

    3. A list of keywords that users click to go to your blog.

Let's discuss these points in detail, starting with crawling problems.

One of the requisites for ranking to get traffic in Google is for the search engine to crawl and index your blog posts and pages. In Google Webmaster tools, you can access this information via: Dashboard- ? Diagnostics ? Web Crawl.

You must ensure that your blog has no crawling issues, such as pages that are accidentally blocked in robots.txt or possess a no index tag, or links that are not followed.

Again, it is recommended that you resolve these issues before you proceed with anything else.

Now let's proceed to the keyword lists. You can access this data via Dashboard ? Statistics ? Top Search Queries.

To interpret this information, see the screen shot below:

It says that the keyword "Summerhill Winery" is responsible for 42% of the time the website appears in search results and is viewed by the users. But only the word "Ogopogo" has been clicked by a user.
