GoDaddy Hosting Server Configuration for WordPress - Download WordPress and Create a MySQL Database

During the time you have to wait for the setup approval, go to http://wordpress.org and download the latest version of WordPress. Also you can start selecting the WordPress themes that you like. These themes define the style, view and look of your WordPress website. Since WordPress is free, you can select these types of templates at no cost to you. You can visit http://wordpress.org/extend/themes/ for a detailed list of free WordPress themes.

The next step is to unzip the WordPress download:

    1. WordPress installer (from wordpress.org)

    2. Your selected WordPress theme

After unzipping it to your desktop you can delete the zip file.

Log back into your GoDaddy hosting account, and then click "My Hosting Account." After that, look on the domain you would like WordPress to be installed under "Control Panel," then click "Manage Account."

This will bring you to the "Hosting Control Center." Find "Databases" in one of the green menus, and then click "MySQL."

MySQL is a database for WordPress. This will be used to store information such as your posts, content and any data pertaining to your operations in WordPress. According to the requirements above, the current WordPress version needs a MySQL version of 4 or greater, so select MySQL version 4.1.

It is now the time to create your database. At this point, the hosting control center is asking you for:

    1. Description

    2. MySQL Database/User Name:

    3. Enter New Password:

    4. Confirm New Password:

In the "Description" field, put "WordPress" and in the MySQL Database/Username field, select a one-word short name that you want. Type the passwords in the field according to the Hosting Control panel password policy.

IMPORTANT: Please write down or keep a safe copy of everything entered above as it will be needed during the WordPress installation.

After that, press NEXT; it will take up to 30 minutes to set up your MySQL database.

Go to "Database," and then click on MySQL, and then look under "STATUS." If it shows "Setup" then the creation of your database is correct or completed.

Finally, you will have to click the pencil-like icon. This shows the "MySQL Database Information." Again write down or keep a copy of this information:

    1. Host Name

    2. Database Name

    3. User Name

This information, particularly the HOSTNAME, is very important during the installation phase of WordPress. It should look like this: p87mysql12.secureserver.net
