Checklist for Testing and Configuring Word Press Installation - Dragging Your Selected Theme to the WordPress Folder and Uploading it to the FTP server
(Page 4 of 4 )
In the WordPress folder, find the wp-content folder. Under that folder you will see another folder called "Themes." Drag your selected theme folder (the one you like, downloaded and unzipped to your desktop) under the Themes folder.
For example, if your theme is "Financial Expert," that selected theme folder (unzipped) should be located under the Wordpress/wp-content/themes directory. See the screen shot below:
Based on the screen shot, your unzipped/downloaded selected theme "Financial Expert" is under the Themes folder of WordPress.
Now everything is ready to be uploaded. Note that you will have to upload only one folder to your FTP server; that is the "WordPress" folder. This folder contains everything that is needed by WordPress to run in your server; that is, the configuration file and theme files.
Now we need to set up your FTP program to connect to your FTP server. To do this, open the FTP program. Below is a procedure applicable only to CoreFTP users:
Copy and paste the WordPress folder to your Drive C, location C: in Windows
Launch CoreFTP.
On the left pane, navigate to C:, see the screen shot below for guidance:
Then, in your FTP program, click "File" ---"Connect." A Site Manager will appear; after that, click "New site"
Fill up the fields with the following guidelines:
Sitename : The Domain name, for example if your website is www.monkeybusiness77.com, type monkeybusiness77 in the sitename.
Host/IP/URL : Use the following format: ftp.yourdomainname.yourdomainextension, so for example if the site is: www.monkeybusiness77.com, it will be: ftp.monkeybusiness77.com
Username: Your username used in your hosting account.
Password: The password you have used and saved.
Other options can be set as: Port: 21, Timeout: 60, Retries: 2, Connection: FTP
After all is set, click "Connect." This will connect you to the FTP server. Then the following rules are critical:
Rule 1 : If you want your site to appear when visitors type the domain name in the browser, then click the "WordPress" folder in your drive C, select all files (Control-A), and then drag all of them to the right. This will initiate the file transfer.
Rule 2 : If you want your site to appear as a folder of the root, then rename it first to "blog," for example, and then drag it to the right to initiate file transfer. For example, you have a domain called: www.example.com, and you want WordPress as your blog, so it will be www.example.com/blog. Just click the whole folder "blog" in your drive C and drag it to your FTP server.
It will take more than 10 minutes to transfer the WordPress files to your FTP server. And when it is done, in the browser type in your website. An installation screen will appear, asking for a blog title and email. Type these fields in and "Install Wordpress."
After it displays successfully, take note of the log in details. The installation is complete; you are now ready to customize your WordPress according to your needs.
