Blogging with Blogger - Profiles and Templates

One surefire way to make your blog your own is to create a profile. Your Blogger profile says pretty much everything you want a visitor to know about you. You can edit your profile through a link on the Blogger Dashboard page. This is the first page that appears after you sign in to your account. It is also where you can change your password and see tips on how to use Blogger better. After clicking Edit Profile, fill out the Edit User Profile page and click Save Profile when you are done. Click the View Updated Profile link to make sure it is configured the way you want it.

Like many social networking sites, you can add a photo or image to your profile in order to personalize it that much more. The option is within the Edit Profile page and is much the same as adding an image to a blog entry. You can either upload it from your computer via the Browse option or from the web by copying its URL. Make sure you click Save Profile when you are finished.

When you first signed up for your Blogger account, you chose a template to use for your blog. This is by no means a permanent fixture. You can easily change it and select from several dozen other choices. Just go into the control panel and select the Layout option followed by Pick New Template. Clicking a template from the choices given will open a new browser that will illustrate what that template looks like in a full-size window.

After closing the sample window, you can click on Save Template to make the choice final. Make sure you save your old template if you made any special customizations to it. Just switch to Edit Html under the Layout tab and copy and paste the code to some text file on your computer.

Jump ahead to the final section to learn more about Blogger's special features.
