Blogging with Blogger
Blogger is one of the most well-known and easy-to-use blog publishing systems available today. And best of all, it's free! First developed in 1999 by Pyra Labs, it was eventually bought by Google in 2003 and moved completely over to Google servers in 2007. This article will teach you how to set up an account in Blogger and take full advantage of its capabilities.
Most first time bloggers use Blogger as their first blog because it makes blogging so easy for the bloggee. BLOG! Sorry, I had to get that out of my system. But seriously, Blogger is not only easy-to-use, but it has no limits to the number of blogs you can post or pictures you can upload. It also has some of the popular community features that most social networks have. But make no mistake, Blogger is mainly about writing blogs. So if you're desperate to have your voice heard via the Internet, and you have little to no computer skills, Blogger may be the choice for you.
To begin, you must create a Blogger account. Go to www.blogger.com and click on “Create Your Blog Now.” If you already have an account with Google, you can use that information for your Blogger account; otherwise, you will need to create one for Blogger. The instructions are pretty straightforward, so if you fill in all the pertinent fields, you can move on to the next section. Here you will create a name and address for your blog. Your address will be randomname.blogspot.com. Click the Advanced Setup option if you have your own domain and wish to operate the blog on your web host. Finally, you must select a template (theme) for your blog. Click Continue and after your blog is created, click Start Posting.
Once your blog is created, you should establish your preference on three particular settings. After you sign in to your account, click on your blog name (this takes you to the control panel) and then Settings. Look at the Basic page of the Settings Tab. Where it says, “Add your Blog to our listings?” make sure you select the appropriate choice for you. Yes will include your blog in the Blogger directory and No will keep it private. Click Save Settings. Then go to the Formatting page under the Settings tab. Make sure the Show Title option is on the appropriate setting. This will display a Title box when you create a new entry. Click Save Settings. Under the Comments page in Settings, choose whether you want visitors to be able to leave comments. Again, click Save Settings.
The next section will show you how to post entries.
