Blog with WordPress - Details
Step 2: Details, Details
The very next screen will be the beginning of your blog creation. You’ll see a box containing the Web address of your blog. You can change the front part of this, but not the attached domain (wordpress.com). An automatic prompt will put your username into the field. You can change it, or leave it as is.
Next, you create the title of the blog which will appear at the top of the page. This doesn’t have to be the same as the Web address, but it should be similar. You’ll have a pull-down menu to determine which language the blog will be written in (primarily), and then you can have the option to include or exclude your blog in search engine results. It’s a good idea to include your blog with search engines if you hope to get readers from the Internet population at large.
Step 3: Confirm It
The next screen will prompt you to check your email and confirm the fact that you would like to create a WordPress blog. Under this are blank fields which allow you to create your public, online profile. Once you activate your account through the email process and fill out your profile (you can choose to leave it blank and return to it at a later time), you’re ready to start creating your blog.
Step 4: Blog with WordPress
Go back to the home page and sign in to your account. On the right-hand side, you’ll see a link that takes you to your blog’s administration panel. Click this, and you’re ready to get to the nitty-gritty of actual blog creation.
You’ll automatically begin on the Dashboard, which in WordPress is where all posts begin. You will also automatically have a post on your blog titled “hello, world!” This is a default post which appears on all new WordPress pages. Because it’s your blog, you can do as you please with this post. To change it in any way, simply click on the link to the post and you’ll find yourself in the text editor.
To change the look of your blog (it will also start with the default look of all WordPress pages), click the Settings link near the top of the page. This will take you into a screen which allows you to change the title of the blog and put in a general description of what your blog is about.
