Are E-Zines Still Relevant? - Defining E-Zines
(Page 2 of 4 )
If you think there’s no true definition for the complicated online content called e-zines, you’re wrong. The definition is, however, somewhat loose. Technically, an e-zine is any publication featuring periodic content which is offered through e-mail or Web pages. To qualify as a “publication,” a site only has to post content for online use -- this is, in effect, publishing that text.
When viewed this way, there are many sites which could qualify as being e-zines. If you boast a good deal of frequently-updated content, your site might even fall into this category. It’s really the label "e-zine" that’s on the way out, not the concept of frequently updated online content itself. Even the idea of offering subscriptions is still extremely popular among content-rich sites.

Under the wide definition of e-zines, print magazines which have Web sites that display magazine-like content could even be considered e-zines. Frequently updated, content-rich sites such as About.com could also fit into this very wide Internet category.
Many sites, even if they could technically be called e-zines, choose not to sport the label. The idea of e-zines is still used, in some ways, throughout the Web, but the word is starting to appear less and less.
